• He was awarded the title “Associate Professor” in 1990 and “Professor” in 1996.
• He was Head of Clinical Psychotherapy Unit He founded at the Department of Psychiatry, Istanbul School of Medicine, from 1993-2014.
• He was Head of Dissociative Disorders Research and Treatment Unit that he founded at the Department of Psychiatry, Istanbul School of Medicine from 1994 to2014.
• He made studies on self psychology and dynamic psychotherapy at the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, University of Basel from 1992 to 1993.
• He authored more than 120 international publications in his field. He made pioneering studies on dissociative identity disorder in Türkiye and worldwide.
• He was given 9 international awards, including lifetime achievement award for his studies on the effects of childhood traumas and psychotraumatology.
• He was the Chairman of International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation from 2007 to 2008.
• He was the Chairman of European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies from 2013 to 2015.
• He counseled the Classification of Mental Disorders Study Group (DSM-5), American Psychiatric Association between 2010-2013 and 2018-2019.
• He was appointed as Head of the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, Koç University in 2019.
