- He has served as President of the Pancreatobiliary Pathology Society.
- He served as President of the North American Branch of the International Academy of Pathology.
- Member of numerous organizations and committees, including the Education Committees, in the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Pathology Committee, the Pathology Committee of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, the Association of Directors of Anatomic and Surgical Pathology Executive Council, the American Society of Clinical Pathology and the College of American Pathologists.
- He was Director of the Anatomic Pathology Department in Emory University (USA).
- He was granted the title “Professor” by the Wayne State University, Emory University and Koç University.
- He is listed in Best Doctors of America, Top Doctors of America and Who’s Who in Science.
- He made more than 300 international lectures and participated in numerous courses.
- Member of the Editorial Board in 6 international journals (managing and associate editor in two of them) and reviewer in more than 20 journals.
- He authored more than 15 book chapters in the tumor classification guidelines of the WHO (World Health Organization).
- He is the author of the most renowned oncology, surgery and pathology “textbooks” on the diseases of pancreas, biliary systems, the ampulla of Vater and gall baldder.
- He is the holder of “outstanding researcher” degree given by the National Institute of Health (USA), he is the member of the Pancreas Cancer Progress Review Group and he has been uninterruptedly awarded grant for 20 years.
- He is the holder of numerous education and research awards (American Association of Cancer Research Award, GIPS Jack Yardley Investigator Award, Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scientist Award)
- He has the certificate of the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Board of the American Board of Pathology and of the Pathology Specialty granted by Turkish Ministry of Health.
- He is Oncologic Pathology Fellow and Chief Fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, U.S.A.
- Prof. Volkan Adsay, M.D., has been awarded the 2021 International Academy Award in the Health and Life Sciences Category by the TUBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences) as one of the first pathologists to define intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm and as a pioneer in identification of tumor types like intraductal oncocytic papillary neoplasm of pancreas and pancreatic colloidal carcinoma as well as in diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of various diagnostically difficult diseases such as paraduodenal pancreatitis.

- Tumors and diseases of pancreas and the ampulla of Vater,
- Diseases of the gall bladder and the biliary tree,
- Gastrointestinal system disorders,
