Equipped with the latest technology, a sound infrastructure and qualified staff members, the clinical laboratory of Koç University Hospital is among leading laboratories in Turkey and recognized internationally. Our laboratory has been designed to meet emergency, inpatient and polyclinic requirements, and consists of biochemistry, hormone, hematology, flow cytometry, urinalysis, immunology, microbiology and molecular microbiology units. The microbiology unit breaks down into the four main categories of bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology.

Laboratory tests are primarily based on the “Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)” standards. Reliability of all tests are ensured under numerous internal quality management programs that are run daily. As for external quality applications, various national and international programs are utilized, including mainly the program established by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), External Quality Assurance Services (EQAS), External Quality Control Program of Clinical Microbiology Specialists, United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) and quality control programs of T.R. Ministry of Health-Directorate General of Public Health. Total analytical deviation and uncertainty calculations are conducted on a monthly basis in order to evaluate test performance.

Operational since September 2014, our laboratory offers a wide range of test panels, which are constantly update. In fact, the clinical laboratory of Koç University Hospital, is one of the first laboratories to have started performing SARS-CoV-2 PCR (reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction) and SARS-CoV-2 antibody tests during the recent Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, we have launched the home phlebotomy service for those patients who are advised to stay at home or would not like to personally visit a hospital.

In addition to performing routine laboratory tests, our laboratory contributes scientific research conducted at our hospital in various fields as an integral part of its mission. In this manner, researchers working on our hospital and university grounds are supported.

The clinical laboratory of Koç University Hospital aims to constantly maintain its position as one of the leading national laboratories by adopting the latest technology available and updating its testing guidelines continuously in line with the vision and mission of VKF Healthcare Group.
