The Pulmonary Medicine department of Koç University Hospital serves patients with an ever-expanding team that is dedicated to ethical and scientific values and capable of effectively using all facilities of advanced technology.

Treatment, diagnosis and follow-up of all diseases related to pulmonary medicine are carried out by our staff of specialists, which consists of experienced faulty members and physicians. The polyclinics of Smoking Cessation, Allergy-Immunology and Sleep-Apnea offer outpatient services, while the Pulmonary Medicine ward admits inpatients for treatment and investigations.

All conditions regarding lungs and the respiratory system are evaluated and treated at our various Pulmonary Medicine polyclinics.

The allergy polyclinic conducts examinations as well as allergy tests, drug allergy tests and treatment in addition to bronchial provocation tests.

The Sleep-Apnea polyclinic diagnoses and treats respiratory problems experienced during sleep. On the interventional side, the procedures of flexible/rigid bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) and thoracic ultrasonography are available at our department. Thanks to simultaneous rapid pathological evaluation coupled with these procedures, diagnostic efficiency is boosted. Our unit is capable of performing all available techniques of interventional bronchoscopy. Our respiratory function unit offers advanced and basic measurements alongside cardiopulmonary exercise tests.

The department of Pulmonary Medicine stands out with interdisciplinary treatment approaches too. Through council meetings held with all relevant departments involved in treatment and diagnosis, the most optimal routes of treatment are reviewed and selected for each patient from a broad point of view. Cases of lung cancer are discussed at the “Multidisciplinary Tumor Council” throughout the stages of diagnosis and treatment, making sure that other relevant departments contribute the process of planning treatment in a multidisciplinary fashion. Specialists from the departments of Thoracic Surgery, Radiology, Pathology, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology  take part in council meetings.

The “Interstitial Pulmonary Diseases Council” gather together faculty members and physicians from the departments of pulmonary medicine, pathology, radiology and rheumatology in order to make decisions on diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with interstitial lung diseases.
