Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonary Medicine Clinic of Koç University Hospital provides service as a reference center in our country with its large and experienced staff. Our clinic deals with diagnosis, treatment and supervision stages of various pulmonary diseases. Primary examples of these diseases include “Asthma, COPD, Lung cancer, Pulmonary embolism, and Interstitial lung diseases”. The procedures of both diagnosis and treatment and follow-up are managed by the councils that operate with a multidisciplinary approach, especially for diseases of lung cancer and interstitial lung diseases.
Smoking Cessation Outpatient Clinic
Patients are informed regarding healthy methods to stop smoking in regular encounters with a Pulmonologist at Smoking Cessation Outpatient Clinic of Koç University Hospital. Patients are assisted for problems that occur while smoking is stopped. Smoking cessation therapies approved by the Ministry of Health are recommended to minimize withdrawal symptoms that make cessation process difficult. Patients are assisted by Nutrition and Dietetics Specialist and Psychologist.
Allergy Outpatient Clinic
We diagnose and treat allergic diseases of upper and lower respiratory tracts as well as dermal and drug allergies for adult patients at Allergy and Immunology Diseases Department of Koç University Hospital since its foundation. Allergy and Immunology Department of Koç University Hospital is one of the pioneers in this field among the healthcare institutions in Turkey with its scientific and ethical approach, most advanced medical practices and academic productivity. Pulmonary Function Laboratory
Pulmonary Function Laboratory is used for physiologic evaluation of the respiratory system. Data obtained from pulmonary function tests are used for diagnosis of certain diseases of respiratory system, identification of the underlying cause of shortness of breath, monitoring response to treatment, preoperative assessments and disability determination processes. Pulmonary Function Laboratory of Koç University Hospital offers multidisciplinary service to measure functions of the pulmonary system in line with the up-to-date literature. Carefusion brand devices are used in our laboratory.
Sleep
Sleep Medicine Unit of Pulmonary Medicine Department primarily deals with diagnosis and treatment of respiratory problems during sleep (sleep apnea). Patients are assessed at Sleep Apnea Outpatient Clinic in day time and next, one hospitalization at Sleep Laboratory is planned for whole night polysomnography or cardiorespiratory sleep test is performed at home, although more limited data is obtained. Appropriate technique is determined jointly with the patient depending on the severity of complaints, patient’s preferences and alternative treatments.
Thoracic Surgery
Pulmonary, pleural, esophageal, tracheal, diaphragmatic and mediastinal surgeries are performed using cutting edge technology in our Thoracic Surgery Department. Approximately 90% of pulmonary surgeries are performed with videothoracoscopic or robot assisted methods- also referred to as closed surgeries. In our university hospital, we serve a wide spectrum of patients, ranging from those with most common diseases to those with rarest conditions, by taking all advantages of the multidisciplinary approach.
